| | 39' of course | ] | I read a lot of fan-fiction regarding Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. I have been contemplating possible folks that would be asked to join the SGC and or the Atlantis project. I was thinking of scientists and or specialists that would 'fit in'.
Then I had a dream....
A member of my favorite band was ABD for a PhD in Astronomy/astrophysics before he threw up his hands and focused completely on the music career back in 1972.
His focus was space particulates - AKA Stardust.
I dreamed that he was publishing articles again, and was approached due to a new theory proven in one paper.
I was amused by this dream, so I went online to see if there was any basis for my wild imagination.
so I find this:

and others at this site.
He is actually really finishing his degree in Astrophysics.
Brian May has actually returned to science.

| | hold back the rain - DuranDuran | ] | Today they ended the 'Knight Realms' event early due to the rain and the forcast for snow. I arrived home after a long drive in a torential downpour, and sat down to relax be fore I showered. Now it looks like I won't be able to tonight. You see the rain is so hard and plentiful that our basement has flooded.
THis may not seem so strange, but when Floyd (the hurricane) came through, we barely got a tricle of water in the baesment. Today, there are 4 inches of water down there, and it's coming in through the foundation.
Luckily, most things were located on shelves and or on top of plastic bins.
The roads around here are flooded badly, and may not clear by morning.

| | Blaze of Glory - the Alarm | ] | Now today I and Garrun were supposed to take a leasurely drive down to visit his parents, but the (enter your favorite explitive) repair folks cancelled the original repair appointment, and resceduled for today. So of course, they call this morning and say they will be by 'simetime between 1-5pm - therefore destroying our plans for today, and making is so he will most likely be fighting rush hour traffic to get here.
And now. . . for my wonderous day off - you see Comcast (our ...enter profanity... cable TV/internet provider) has decided to go all digital with HBO, thus making descrambler boxes mandatory for all subscribers. The Captain of our residence decided to break down and get a box for her room. (the only box in the house before this was in the living room). Well, she got it delivered, and hooked it up, and could not get any of the channels over 99 - which is where HBO moved (301).
COMCAST said the repair guy would be here between 11-1. The Captain came home for lunch to wait for the guy. Since Garrun was delayed, I said I would wait for the guy so she could go back to work. He got here at 3. Comcast wouldn't answer his call into the dispatcher for 20 minutes regarding re-initializing the box. He then looked at the wiring outside, and whisled at the condition. He is now replacing all the outside wires to the house.
now I am sitting- waiting for him to be done. |

You are The Sun
Happiness, Content, Joy.
The meanings for the Sun are fairly simple and consistent.
Young, healthy, new, fresh. The brain is working, things that were muddled come clear, everything falls into place, and everything seems to go your way.
The Sun is ruled by the Sun, of course. This is the light that comes after the long dark night, Apollo to the Moon's Diana. A positive card, it promises you your day in the sun. Glory, gain, triumph, pleasure, truth, success. As the moon symbolized inspiration from the unconscious, from dreams, this card symbolizes discoveries made fully consciousness and wide awake. You have an understanding and enjoyment of science and math, beautifully constructed music, carefully reasoned philosophy. It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy.
What Tarot Card are You? Take the Test to Find Out. |

He was one of the few close friends I had when I was young. There were very few that I considered good friends. Two of 5 now gone - both from disease. - Both from types that have no discernable way of preventing (brain aneurysm and pancreatic cancer)

| After con relaxing |
[Jul. 17th, 2006|08:46 pm] |
Dexcon wwas this past week. You may think weekend, but the gaming con that takes place in East Brunswick, NJ every July runs officially wed-sun. Staff starts working the friday before the con setting up and stuff. I took the whole week off, spending Friday night through sunday on site planning, shopping and doing some prep work for my position.
I run the staff suite - and I can't cook anything - or even warm up anything onsite. Therefore, a lot of precon work must be done.
Monday and teusday were spent shopping and baking and grilling and chopping - a whole lotta chopping.
It went off pretty well. The magor problem revolved around going through a lot more food than expected. What I thought would last all weekend, was gone by Friday lunch. What was left at 2pm on Sunday in the staff suite:
most of a gallon of pickle relish 1/3 gallon hellmans mayo 1/2 tub of peanut butter about 2 boxes ofr cereal 1/2 gallon of milk a bit of jams and jellies 4 cans OJ (forgotten at breakfast)
in other words, not so much.
things could have gone better, but could have gone much worse. Hopefully we will be able to do more precon shopping next year.
Had fun playing games - Deadlands run by a bunch of my friends. I played a voodoo priestess - and was quite effective.
Avatar Council meeting - was reminiscent of the long times past bickering style meetings, but was fun none-the-less.
Lucas Jamison is an ass, but is usually right. - So he's related to Daniel Jackson??? |

| | Time to Countdown TMN (TM Network) | ] | So, my friend Thormhairfallen has invited me to stay with her family at Icon, so I am going this year.
the week after that is the Avatar LARP (see http://dexposure2.com)
April is pretty empty, but I may go up to Massawhatsits to visit old friends from Grinnell College (that's in Iowa guys)
I'm trying to save money this year, but we'll see. Last year was 2 trips to Florida, and 1 to Maine (this was due to an illness in the family). I hope less family based trips, and perhaps a nice vacation away from evrything somewhere not with family and not at a con I'm working.
No plans yet, but we'll see |

| | QUEEN - another one bites the dust | ] | This week is Dreamation - a gaming convention in New Brunswick, NJ (see http://www.dexposure.com for details) where I amm one of 2 people running the Staff suite/con suite. My partner in crime, Andy has been a wonder at organizing the people to help us. I have been planning food mostly- pricing things, shopping ect for the foodstuffs that vary the most in price and quality - such as coldcuts and eggs.
I'm a quality person. I was raised as a smart shopper. I spend a lot of time checking circulars and coupons for my shopping, and it translates well when shopping for a large group. I've found that BJs and Sams club are not always the cheapest, and sometimes it is worth it to spend a wee bit more for quality (hellmans mayo for instance), just because the cheapest is often such bad quality, it is inedible .
Entermanns outlet is our friend. (rt 27 just south of 287)
weekly sales at the local chains are our friend.
buying seasonal produce from the local fruit and veggie stand is very much our friend.
I've often told folks that I could feed 30 people on what the government gives a family of 6 for foodstamps - healthy meals with fresh ingredients. It's true. Knowing where, when and how to shop for bargains is just as important as what your budget is.
Anyway, I have about 12-15 dozen eggs to buy and boil, and some hummus to make.
so later |

| | Punk Rock Girl - dead milkmen | ] | While in Florida visiting my Grandmother for her 92nd birthday, we spent a lot of time at my aunt's house (mother's sister). She had been breeding Shitzus for a few years (little dogs who don't shed). Well, one of her brood (6) decided my dad belonged to her.
Needless to say, the plotting began, and tomorrow the little grey girl named Blackberry will be flying up to Albany to join my parents and sister in Saratoga Springs.
It's not really a dog, more like a DAT - a cat in a dog suit. She weighs all of 10 pounds shaved, and wants to sleep all day on the lap of a person.
It's a good thing. My parents need an excuse to go out walking every night, and if the dog gets tired, she can get picked up and carried easily.
They already bought her a few sweaters, toys, a bed and numerous other things.
Will be spioled rotten. |
